NYRA

Sheffield born London based artist Nyra has been music-obsessed from a young age. Influenced by his Mothers 80’s record collection, he grew up listening to all sorts of musical influences; new wave, soul, funk, disco, synth pop, and many forms of electronica, all genres he takes nods from today in his own productions.

Sheffield has always been a melting pot of musical talent, from clubbing institutions like Bed and The Republic to labels like Warp who are still flying the flag for innovative, underground Uk talent. Nyra’s teens were spent soaking up all Sheffield had to offer, finding his feet in the music that spoke to him, frequenting the city's many different genres of club nights over the years and cultivating his skills formally as a Dj, then a producer.

Nyra’s musical journey continued and in 2008 he founded the Sheffield club and night Downlo at Dan Sane, hosting guests such as Ben UFO, Steffi, Baby Ford and Efdemin to name a few. This infamous warehouse party put the steel city on the map for underground parties and paved the way for now established venue Hope Works.

After a successful career switch as a professional cyclist Nyra moved to London in pursuit of his next musical endeavour. With broader life experience he hit the ground running, releasing records and remixes on labels like Secretsundaze and Domino and starting his own imprint Canoe. Now with 13 releases under its belt and support from the likes of Job Jobse, Eris Drew, Midland, The Blessed Madonna, Gerd Jansen and Lauren Garnier to name a few, Canoe has cemented Nyra’s artistic integrity and authenticity.

A resident at London’s Adonis party and having played shows all over Europe from Fabric London to Sonar to ADE and with recent appearances at Blitz Munch and Glastonbury's block 9, Nyra is taking things to the next step and has a plethora of things in the pipeline.
