Greg Wilson starts 2022 at the Ministry of Sound.

To start his year 2022 in the best way, Greg Wilson played at the Ministry of Sound, a legendary club in London. He recorded his live set and shared it with us on SoundCloud.

“Great to get my first gig of 2022 under my belt last Saturday at Ministry of Sound Club – I’ve played at this legendary venue a number of times down the years, but this certainly ranked amongst my favourite appearances. The recording has now been uploaded to SoundCloud.

In light of my Essential Mix being chosen for BBC radio1’s classic series earlier in the month, I decided to kick off the year with a selection of some of the tracks included, a few of which are different edits/mixes to those featured back in 2009 when the mix first aired.

One of them, Goody Goody’s ‘It Looks Like Love’, a sublime Vincent Montana Jr. production from 1978, soundtracks this post – a wonderful Chic influenced Disco groove, an original 12” copy of which will nowadays set you back a pretty penny. Whilst ‘It Looks Like Love’ was largely overlooked in the US, ‘#1 Dee Jay’ being the choice track there, in the UK it became a much-loved cult-classic on the Jazz-Funk underground. I remember when I played it at my comeback gig in Manchester in 2003, where I pulled out my original vinyl 12”, a US promo only, for ‘one more tune’, some of the people in attendance were straight up to the booth eagerly enquiring what it was. It was finally issued in the UK for the first time on 12” via the South Street Disco label in 2019, 41 years after it originally appeared, and 10 years on from featuring in my Essential Mix.”
